Southern Australia comprises of the territories of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Thus the state covers half of the total area of Australia. It includes two of the largest cities of the country, Sydney and Melbourne and the political capital of the state is Canberra.

The state boasts of a varied landscape that includes the Great Victoria Desert, Simpson Desert, Stuart Stony Desert and Nullabor Plain. It also features densely populated peninsulas like Eyre and Yorke along with Kangaroo Island, which is a haven for nature lovers.

Like the landscape of the state, the climate of the state is also diverse. The desert regions of the state remain hot and dry all round the year whereas the coastal regions of province experience completely different climate. The summer in the state begins form December and lasts till February, while the winter stretches from June to August and it is only during the season of winter that the region receives rain.

Southern Australia features some of the major popular tourist destinations of the country. Dubbed as the’Festival State’, Southern Australia‘s geographical and climatic variation make it an ideal holiday destination. Some of the major attractions of the region are Barossa Valley, Victor Harbour, Kangaroo Island, Murray River, Flinders Ranges and Coober Pedy.

The capital city of the state, Adelaide is a lively city that boasts of all the tenets to make it one of the most traveled cities in the country. It is replete with numerous galleries, museums, heritage buildings, churches. You can also see here green parklands, elegant stone buildings and do not forget to visit the National Wine Centre and the Haigh’s Chocolate Factory situated in the city. Besides these, there are countless restaurants, pubs, night clubs, casinos and other attractions.

The state boasts of some of the famous wine growing regions in the country, like Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Coonawarra. These three produce half of Australia’s total wine harvest. New South Wales  is situated in the south-east of Australia and it is the populated state of Australia. Majority of the Australian mainland was included in mainland in the past. Adelaide Zoo is a 15 minute stroll from the central commerce district. Adelaide Zoo has more than 1,800 animals. Almost 300 species of foreign and local mammals, birds, reptiles and fish displayed in over eight hectares of wonderful botanic environment.

You will see Wang and Funi, the only big Pandas in the Southern Hemisphere at Adelaide Zoo.

The zoo’s other main show include the fascination South East Asian Rainforest, Seal Bay, Australian Rainforest Wetlands walk-through aviary, Nocturnal House.

Zookeepers supply daily animal feeds and keeper talks. You can join an Adelaide Zoo free walk about tour all through the day – tours depart from different locations every half hour between 9.45am and 3.30pm.
