Southern Australia comprises of the territories of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Thus the state covers half of the total area of Australia. It includes two of the largest cities of the country, Sydney and Melbourne and the political capital of the state is Canberra.
The state boasts of a varied landscape that includes the Great Victoria Desert, Simpson Desert, Stuart Stony Desert and Nullabor Plain. It also features densely populated peninsulas like Eyre and Yorke along with Kangaroo Island, which is a haven for nature lovers.
Like the landscape of the state, the climate of the state is also diverse. The desert regions of the state remain hot and dry all round the year whereas the coastal regions of province experience completely different climate. The summer in the state begins form December and lasts till February, while the winter stretches from June to August and it is only during the season of winter that the region receives rain.

It is replete with numerous galleries, museums, heritage buildings, churches.
